Safety Professional, Ottumwa, IA

Works with employees and assists supervisors and others on injury prevention by identifying and correcting potential safety and health hazards as well as identifying unsafe actions to eliminate on the job injuries and illnesses.

Assists in developing recommendations for safety processes/programs to attain and sustain a hazard free workplace.

This includes design and evaluation of components to monitor effectiveness.

Conducts audits to verify compliance to required regulations and company policies and then assures management is aware of items identified for proper and corrective actions.

Develops, directs and may conduct safety presentations and training.

Analyzes appropriate Environmental Health Safety (EHS) functional reporting metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.

Reviews new products, equipment, processes and facilities for potential hazards and compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards; making recommendations if necessary prior to introduction.

Communicates and works with safety equipment suppliers.

Knowledge and education of Federal Regulations.

Specifically, 29 CFR 1910 (General Industry).

Excellent written and oral communication skills; must be comfortable with public speaking.

Time management and organizational skills. 1st Shift, 40 hours per week, no OT Able to perform risk assessment and identify root cause and provide guidance on appropriate corrective actions. Organization, time management, and public speaking skills are a must.

Participate in the design, implementation and continuous improvement of processes to reduce workplace hazards.

Complete risk assessments and support the development of processes/programs to close identified gaps.

Collaborate across multiple functions to engage stakeholders.

Compile and analyze necessary data, documentation, and correspondence to comply with safety regulations and health and safety management system requirements.

Support corrective action and preventative action processes.

Respond to internal questions and requests for information relevant to safety and health issues from acquired knowledge and experience.

Develop, direct and may conduct safety presentations and training.
